Police officer No.50158 PC Charles Opio attached to FFU Mbarara has been arrested after shooting dead a UPDF solider in Mbarara City.
On Friday May 19, 2023 at around 6:00pm while at the Police/ Prison Cell at the residence of FFU, opposite Bank of Uganda Mbarara branch, Opio shot dead L/CPL Yeremiah Paper a UPDF Officer attached Ruhengyere Engineering Brigade Kiruhura District.
Police say the shooting followed a misunderstanding between the two officers.
In a statement, Mbarara District Police Commander, Superintendent of Police, Emmanuel Bwembale confirmed this report.
Bwembale has told The Eye Media that the scene was visited by Police and documented.
He confirmed Opio’s arrest too and said the suspect is in Police Custody at CPS Mbarara and gun exhibited.
“The body of the deceased was taken to the Regional Referral Hospital Mbarara for posrmortem,” he said.
