Police in Arua have arrested and detained a 25 year old man who survived lynching by angry mob.

It is alleged the suspect identified as Abdallah Gulume 25 a resident of Tanganyika Central was found with a 22 year old girl in a room at Savella Palace Lodge in Arua City.

The mob comprising relatives of the girl subjected the suspect to thorough beatings until Police led by OC Arua Central Police Station Julius Jokkende swung into action to save him.

By the time police arrived, the relatives were   demanding for Kasurube (a fine) from the man for sleeping with their daughter, a nursing student.

The Lady was identified as Rashida aged 22 yrs a student of Nursing and midwifery at Arua School of Comprehensive Nursing

said WestNile Region Police Spokesperson, SP Josephine Angucia in a press statement over the incident.

According to West Nile Region Police Spokesperson Josephine Angucia both Gulume and Rashida while at CPS said they committed no offence since they are above 18 years.

“It was a mutual consent between us and we were found just seated in a lodge” the duo revealed.

Since the student was above 18 years, Police told her relatives that the man could not be charged legally since both were adults and had mutual consent before meeting.

Both parties were urged to solve the matter amicably out of police.

However,  Gulume opened up an assault case against the relatives of the girl who arrested and beat him up while demanding a fine Kasurube forcefully.

Inquiries into the case of Assault continue under Arua City Central Police Station Diary Reference 42/23/05/2023.
