Police in Rukungiri have arrested a 65-year-old man for the alleged murder of his lover over a phone.
The suspect has been identified as George Tindiwengi Bitambeki, a retired veterinary officer while the deceased is Olivia Tumusiime 54, both residents of Kababagi cell Kicence parish Nyakishenyi sub county Rukungiri district.
It’s alleged that while at Nyakishoroza trading centre, the deceased who had kept the suspect’s phone for some days saw a call from his daughter.
She decided to take the phone so that he could receive the call.
“After receiving that call, the deceased wanted to again go away with his phone, something that annoyed Bitambeki and pulled out his grazing stick (enkoni) and assaulted her,” said Elly Maate, the Kigezi Regional Police Spokesperson adding that “as she tried to run away, Olivia collapsed and died from the compound of her neighbour Costance Tukamushaba.”
A case was reported at Nyakishenyi police station by Ijugo Africano the area chairperson,
crime scene visited and documented, suspect was arrested and body taken to Rwakabengo health center III mortuary for postmortem.
