The territorial police in Rukiga have arrested a healthy worker on allegations of raping a patient.
The suspect has been identified by Kigezi Regional Police Spokesperson, Elly Maate as Darius Orikiriza 38, an enrolled male nurse attached to Mparo health centre IV in Rukiga district.
According to police, Orikiriza raped a 20-year-old Elizabeth Orishabaa a resident of Maaya cell, Kitanga parish Kashambya sub county Rukiga district.
Orishabaa who is 7 months pregnant was allegedly raped by Orikiriza on Monday August 21, 2023 afternoon when she had gone to the government health facility for antenatal care.
It is said that Orishabaa was referred to scanning department which was being operated by Orikiriza who directed her to remove her clothes and insteady raped her before scanning her pregnancy.
The victim informed the hospital management after the incident who also informed the police.
This report has been confirmed by Kigezi Regional Police Spokesperson, Elly Maate who said a team of detectives swung into action and arrested Orikiriza.
