Police officers in the Gadafi Barracks located in Jinja city are reported to have killed a yet to be identified individual alleged to be a thief.

The law enforcement men practiced the unlawful mob justice against the wrong elements who broke into one of the police officer’s home with purported aims of stealing properties.

An anonymous source narrated that the suspected robbers on January 29, 2024 successfully entered the officer’s house who had gone for a night duty and his unspecified items were taken.

The group was reportedly attracted by the items in the the room, prompting them to use the next day to finish up all the items where in the due course were unlucky when the man in uniform had not reported for his night duties.

During a hot shuffle, the mob ended the life of one thief while his two colleagues were arrested and detained at Jinja Central police station (CPS).

Reports indicate that the deceased and now the detainees are children of a police officer whose names were not disclosed by the source.

According to findings, some of Police officers leave behind their families when transferred to other stations which some officers attribute the insecurity to children of the transfered officers.

It is alleged that several law enforcement officers residing the the said police barracks have repeatedly decried the growing incidents of theft with a case reported every week.

“At least every week, we register a house break in and it is becoming worse,” one officer was quoted speaking.

The target remains on officers executing nigh duties and especially during sensitive days and weekends when all personnel are deployed for operations in Jinja and around.

Undisclosed police constable blamed the Officer in Charge (OC) of the Police barracks for permitting civilians to play cards within the barracks during day time and described them as strangers.

Housed on about 100 acres of land, the barracks is neither fenced or has the CCTV cameras, giving opportunity to intruders to invade and take off with items of the men in uniform utilizing the barracks which some officers demanded for a perimeter wall.

However, the police have not yet produced any comments about the unlawful mob justice acted by the law enforcement officers in the barracks.
