The Luzira prisons barracks community is still in shock following an incident in a male prisons officer met a tragic end of life at the hands of his police lover following a domestic dispute turned deadly.
The grim episode unfolded on Sunday February 18, 2024 when Lance Corporal Wilfred Okori, a dedicated prisons officer, found himself embroiled in a heated altercation with his wife, Probation Police Constable Mercy Alowo, attached to Kabalagala Police Station.
The dispute, reportedly sparked by financial and phone-related matters, escalated throughout the day, ultimately culminating in a fatal confrontation.
Deputy police spokesperson Luke Owoyesigyire recounted the distressing turn of events, revealing that the situation reached a tragic climax as Okori prepared to depart for work. In a shocking twist, Alowo Mercy allegedly brandished a knife, fatally stabbing her husband in the midst of their dispute.
Despite swift efforts to render aid, Okori succumbed to his injuries upon arrival at the Luzira Prisons staff clinic, as confirmed by Uganda Prisons spokesperson Frank Baine.
The swift response of prison security led to the apprehension of the suspect, who was promptly handed over to the authorities for further investigation and management.
Owoyesigyire disclosed that a murder case has been opened as investigators delve into the circumstances surrounding the heartbreaking incident.
