In a time when political loyalty has become as fragile as morning dew, one woman in Busoga stands out as a symbol of courage, gratitude, and unwavering commitment — Nambi Zainah Wakeba (Omulongoti), the aspiring Woman MP for Jinja City (2026-2031).
As many politicians across the country — including those personally groomed, mentored, and propelled to political stardom by Rt. Col. Dr. Kizza Besigye — scramble to jump ship in pursuit of greener pastures, Nambi Zainah remains firmly by Besigye’s side.
Her current campaign poster, boldly bearing Besigye’s portrait, is the first of its kind seen in the entire Busoga sub-region — a rare and public declaration of loyalty to a man many now fear to even mention in public.
In recent months, we have watched with disbelief as key figures once nurtured by Besigye — from Kampala to Western Uganda — shamelessly defect to rival political camps.
In Busoga alone, several politicians who once thrived on Besigye’s structures have either gone silent or openly embraced other political parties. Some of the went to parliament by wearing Besigye’s badge with pride but they are now conspicuously absent from his side.
Meanwhile, Nambi Zainah and Paul Kawanguzi (Counsel) are the only names still standing tall as flagbearers of principle over opportunism.
Zainah’s decision to boldly display Besigye’s image on her campaign materials is not mere symbolism especially now when she is not sure he will even be able to appear anywhere to campaign for her— it is a statement of gratitude to a man who gave his life, sweat, and freedom to mentor a generation of opposition leaders. It is a reminder that not all are driven by selfish political calculations.
As many betrayals unfold, some driven by greed, fear, and lust for political survival, Nambi Zainah’s loyalty is a refreshing contrast. In politics, where integrity is fast becoming an endangered virtue, she is showing that one can still stand on the side of truth, no matter how politically inconvenient.
In the end, history will remember not those who ran away when it mattered most, but those who stood with the truth when the winds blew hardest. Today, Busoga salutes Nambi Zainah Wakeba — a true daughter of the struggle and a shining example to the next generation of leaders.
