Police in Mukono have launched a full-scale investigation into the brutal murder of Wayengera Godfrey, a 45-year-old resident of Nsuube Village and Director of Beloved Daycare and Nursery School, who was allegedly kidnapped and later killed by men posing as security personnel.
According to a statement issued by Kampala Metropolitan Police Spokesperson SSP Patrick Onyango, the incident occurred on June 10, 2025, as Wayengera and his wife, Najabi Christine, were returning from a burial in Mbale.
The couple was intercepted by individuals donning uniforms resembling those of the Uganda People’s Defence Forces (UPDF), who claimed they were taking them to Mukono Police Station.
Instead, the suspects diverted the couple to Kyungu Road, where Wayengera was reportedly murdered in cold blood, and his wife abducted further to Jinja Misindye in Goma Division, where she was eventually rescued and rushed for medical treatment.
The vehicle they were traveling in, a Toyota Fielder registration number UBP 520A, was recovered abandoned at the scene in Jinja and is currently in police custody as part of the ongoing investigations.
Wayengera, who was also a staff member of Compassion Uganda, was described by community members as a devoted educationist and humanitarian. His shocking death has sent shockwaves across the Mukono community.
Police have already recorded witness statements and transported the deceased’s body to Mulago City Mortuary for a postmortem examination.
As of press time, the suspects remain at large, and the motive behind the attack is still unclear. SSP Onyango confirmed that investigators are working around the clock to apprehend those behind what appears to be a well-orchestrated act of murder and deception.
“We condemn this act in the strongest terms and call on the public to share any useful information that could lead to the arrest of the suspects,” Onyango stated.
