In a bold move to address years of neglect, Oyam South MP aspirant Queen Dorothy Amolo has personally financed the rehabilitation of a 17-kilometre road connecting Juma and Zambia parishes in Kamdini Sub-county, Oyam District — a route that has been impassable for more than three years.
The works, carried out between June 15 and 17, 2025, have brought renewed hope to residents who have long endured hardships accessing markets, schools, health centres and other social services due to the dilapidated road network.
Amolo, who contested in the 2021 general elections as an NRM-leaning candidate and came second to Gender Minister Betty Amongi, says she is filling a leadership void left by the incumbent whom she accuses of abandoning the constituency for Lira City.
“I found that the people of Oyam South are struggling with poor roads and I have committed myself and my resources to support them. I will still do more to ease life for them,” Amolo told The Eye Media.
She further pledged to rehabilitate an additional 16km of road in the same sub-county before extending similar interventions across the constituency.
Local leaders and residents have lauded her intervention, citing both improved mobility and enhanced security.
Patrick Otyeno, LC1 chairperson of Amati A village, where the road passes, said: “The bad roads were contributing to insecurity. Thieves would ambush people at night, women were raped and it was hard for us to track the criminals. We are thankful to Queen Amolo.”
Mr. Jimmy Oryang, a resident, said the road would finally allow farmers to sell their produce at better prices. “People have been buying our goods cheaply because of poor access, but now that we have a road, we shall be able to reach bigger markets.”
Kamdini Sub-county LC3 chairperson Terence Omonya echoed similar appreciation. “We don’t have enough funds to take services to our people, so such intervention is very timely. It’s a huge relief.”
The development has triggered fresh political excitement in Oyam South, with many residents now rallying behind Amolo as a credible alternative to the current leadership.
