NRM Postpones MP Flag Bearer Elections

Kampala | The Eye Media Uganda –

The National Resistance Movement (NRM) Electoral Commission has officially rescheduled the polling date for the election of its parliamentary flag bearers, pushing the much-anticipated vote from July 16th to July 17th, 2025.

In a statement signed by Dr. Tanga Odoi, the NRM Electoral Commission Chairperson, the shift was prompted by an overlap with the National Electoral Commission’s revised roadmap, which slated July 16th as the polling day for Special Interest Group (SIG) Committees, particularly the PWD Committee at sub-county level.

“Following the National Electoral Commission’s adjustment in their electoral roadmap, and in consultation with the National Chairman, we have accordingly adjusted the polling date for the election of Party Flag Bearers for Members of Parliament from 16th July to 17th July, 2025,” Dr. Odoi stated.

The communication, dated July 2, 2025, was addressed to the Chairperson of the NRM Parliamentary Caucus and received official acknowledgment at Parliament on the same day.

Political analysts believe the change, although minor, could affect campaign schedules for various aspirants who had lined up final rallies and last-minute mobilization efforts. However, party insiders insist the adjustment is necessary to allow a smooth and coordinated electoral process across the country.

This development comes at a critical time when NRM’s internal primaries are gaining momentum, with heightened competition, especially in politically active districts like Kamuli, Kayunga, Luweero, and Kiboga.

The Eye Media will continue to track the primaries and bring updates from all corners of the country.
