As the NRM party primaries draw closer, a strong wave of support is sweeping across Budiope West, with voters declaring their unwavering backing for Rt. Hon. Milly Babirye Babalanda, the Minister for the Presidency and aspirant for the NRM Parliamentary flag.
From Kidera to Irundu, Nkondo to Bugaya, residents are speaking in one voice: “This is our time, and Babalanda is our choice.”
The NRM Electoral Commission, in a recent announcement by Chairperson Dr. Tanga Odoi, rescheduled the Budiope West primaries to July 17, with voting set to be conducted by lining up behind candidates as per the Central Executive Committee (CEC) resolution.
In the build-up to the big day, locals have taken charge of mobilization, moving from village to village, urging fellow voters to rally behind Babalanda.
“Hon. Babalanda has done for us what many promised and failed. She deserves our full support,” said Kintu Rashid, a boda boda rider from Nkondo Trading Centre.
From her humble beginnings to becoming one of the most influential figures in the country, Babalanda’s journey is inspiring a new level of hope and political unity in Buyende. Her efforts in pushing government services closer to rural communities, especially in Busoga, have earned her admiration across age and gender divides.
“She is not just a minister in Kampala. She is one of us—our voice, our pride, and our hope,” said Florence Nakirya, a market vendor in Kidera.
As the campaigns continue, Budiope West is witnessing an unprecedented show of solidarity. Yellow flags, posters, and chants of “Babalanda tumulonda!” (We are voting Babalanda!) are now a common sight across the constituency.

Despite the stiff competition expected in the primaries, Babalanda has urged her supporters to remain calm, peaceful, and focused, emphasizing the importance of unity within the party.
“Let us vote in peace, with purpose, and with the future of our constituency at heart,” she said during a grassroots meeting in Bugaya.
With the primary elections just days away, the message from Budiope West is clear: the people are ready, the momentum is strong, and the choice is Milly Babirye Babalanda.
