A political and legal storm is brewing in Kamuli District after Auma Sarah, a widow and LCV candidate, penned a searing open letter to President Yoweri Museveni accusing the police and incumbent Buzaaya County MP Martin Muzaale of complicity in the brutal murder of her husband, Sowedi.

In a deeply emotional letter dated July 21, 2025,.making rounds on social media, Auma Sarah paints a chilling picture of a politically motivated assassination on the eve of the NRM parliamentary primaries.

She alleges that her husband was hunted down, executed in cold blood, and dumped like garbage — all under the watch of armed men in military uniform, allegedly working in coordination with local police and Muzaale’s campaign operatives.

“He was shot in Nawanyago, a bullet tearing through his head, ending his life instantly. His body was dragged, stripped, and dumped. Not even in death was he given dignity,” the letter reads in part.

Sarah accuses the Officer in Charge of Kasambira Police Post of suspiciously handing her husband a Shs 50,000 note shortly before the attack, questioning whether it was a signal to the gunmen. More damning is her claim that the Kamuli District Police Commander (DPC), Rebecca Ayeta, not only refused to act but also oversaw a cover-up — quickly removing the body, refusing to open a case, and diverting the family from station to station with no justice in sight.

“We tried to open a murder case… The OC refused. DPC Ayeta told us to go to the region. No case was ever registered. No investigation. No arrest,” she wrote.

Even more explosive is the widow’s claim that the DPC had cleared Hon. Muzaale to deploy armed personnel ahead of the NRM primaries — a decision she now links directly to her husband’s death.

“Is this what that clearance was for — to kill and silence opponents?” she asks.

Sarah, in her letter, demands an independent investigation, prosecution of the shooters, and disciplinary action against police officers, including DPC Ayeta. She also calls on President Museveni, in his capacity as NRM Chairman, to break his silence and publicly address the killing.

Muzaale, who is the incumbent MP for Buzaaya County, went on to narrowly lose the NRM flag to Paul Kintu Bamusibule, according to official results declared by the NRM Electoral Commission. The defeat has only added fuel to speculation and unrest surrounding the conduct of the primaries in Kamuli.

“I believed in the NRM. But today, I am broken by what it has done to my family,” she concluded.

The Uganda Police Force has yet to issue an official response, and Hon. Muzaale remains tight-lipped amid mounting public outrage.

As pressure builds, the fate of senior police officers and the embattled legislator now hangs in the balance, with Auma Sarah vowing not to rest “until the blood of my husband is accounted for.”
