The Deputy Resident District Commissioner (RDC) of Kayunga, Trevor Solomon Baleke, has rallied members of the Kyerima Manchester United Fans Association to turn their love for football into a springboard for economic empowerment.
The youthful fans, led by their chairman Joseph Kabengwa, paid a courtesy visit to the Deputy RDC at his office, where they revealed that the association has been instrumental in keeping many young people away from crime and social vices.
While commending them for the initiative, Baleke challenged the group to widen their scope beyond football cheering.
“Your association should go beyond supporting football and be used to better your lives through income generation by tapping into the available government programs, especially the Youth Livelihood Program and the Parish Development Model (PDM),” Baleke advised.
The Deputy RDC, himself a diehard Manchester United supporter, pledged financial support to help the association secure formal registration.
“After you are registered, we shall now add you to the groups already accessing government support,” he assured the elated fans.
The RDC also rallied the youth to support the ruling NRM and president Yoweri Museveni.
Baleke’s message struck a chord with the supporters, who vowed to rally fellow youths to embrace government programs while maintaining their passion for the Red Devils.
The visit marked yet another move by Baleke to use community-based groups as vehicles for youth mobilization, crime prevention, and economic transformation in Kayunga District.
