Following the ADF attack on Lhubirira Secondary School in Kasese district, security forces have beefed up their presence along the Uganda-DRC border in the Bunyoro sub-region.
In the attack 42 lives, most students were lost and 6 others abducted by the miltants who also torched a school dormitory, food store and a school bus.
The subregion remains in fear and shock with the locals not sure of what may happen next.
The region shares a porous border with Congo, making it prone to attacks by rebels on the other side.
In response, the Uganda Police Force (UPF), Uganda People’s Defense Forces (UPDF), and other sister security agencies have deployed heavily along the border.
The security are conducting routine patrols and screening all visitors entering the country from the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC).
Local Council I (LCI) Chairpersons along the lake’s shores have also been instructed to thoroughly screen and register all visitors entering their areas from the DRC.
The security forces are urging residents to remain vigilant and report any suspicious individuals or objects to them.
They are also working to enhance cooperation with their counterparts in the DRC to prevent further attacks.
