Transport along Rwenshama road in Queen Elizabeth national park, Bwambara sub county, Rukungiri district has this Friday morning paralyzed after the rising water levels of river Nchwera cut off the road at around 10am.
The local authorites have told our reporter, Jane Mbabazi that it is now impossible for travelers and tourists to cros from Rwenshama to Bwambara.
Keneth Niwagaba the LCII chairman of Rweshama parish says the swelling waters in the river Nchwera originate from the neighbouring Kiyanga and Bitereko sub counties in Mitooma district.
River Nchwera in turn pours into Lake Edward.
It has been established that the water levels of Edward at Rwenshama landing site have also increased putting people into panic.
Motorists heading to the Rwenshama landing site are now forced to use small boats to carry their motorcycles since they have no alternative route.
They are being charged between Shs 3000 and 5,000 just to cross at that point.
Experts say the waters might lower soon. However, those in flood prone areas are advised to vacate.
President Museveni earlier this week directed all people in flood prone areas to vacate and resettle at least 50 metres away from the riverbanks, 200 metres from lake shores- and no building should be constructed on hills with a gradient greater than 30 degrees.
