ASP Luke Owoyesigyire, the Deputy Public Relations officer for Kampala Metropolitan Police says efforts are underway to apprehend the determined suspected assailant who reportedly attacked a businessman while conducting a financial transaction at Bashir Grain Millers.

Mr. Turyamuhaki Sam, a 55-year-old resident of Kabawo Zone, Lubaga Division, Kampala District, fell victim and escaped death when Ashiraf Kiiza carried out a vicious attack against him (victim), armed with a machete and a harmar in his hands.

The attempted murder unfolded Nateete ‘ku taano’ in Nateete Division on the evening of May 13, 2024, at around 8 pm.

Mr. Turyamuhaki was verifying a sum of shs 8 million handed to him by one Bashir, and Kiiza, an employee at the mill, unexpectedly entered the office carrying a sack. He (Kiiza) brandished a machete and a hammer, demanding the money.

A struggle ensued, resulting in Turyamuhaki sustaining severe head injuries from the assailant’s weapons.

With the assistance of bystanders, the attacker was subdued, allowing Mr. Turyamuhaki to receive prompt medical attention.

“The police were informed about the incident and responded. Exhibits, including the weapons used in the assault such as the hammer and panga, were recovered,” said Owoyesigyire.

He said CCTV footage from the scene of crime was obtained to aid in the ongoing investigation.

“The assailant fled the scene and is currently on the run. All efforts are being made to apprehend him,” the officer added.
