The Uganda Police Administrative has dismissed its officer whose gun was used in a gruesome murder of Uttam Bhandari a businessman of Indian origin by a police officer last Friday.
The police spokesperson Fred Enanga, has confimed this report.
In a statement, Enanga said on Monday, May 15, 2023 that Police Constable Steven Mulombo is dismissed..
Mulombo was arrested after investigations revealed that he had left his gun unattended in his room, allowing Ivan Wabwire to pick it up and subsequently shoot Uttam Bhandari at Raja Chambers on Parliamentary Avenue.
Enanga says that this incident was a clear case of gross indiscipline and negligence.
He emphasises that had Mulondo not left his gun unattended, Wabwire couldn’t have killed Uttam.
“As a result, Mulombo has been charged with discreditable conduct and has been dismissed from the force,” said Enanga.
Enanga says the police shall continue taking disciplinary actions against officers whose actions tarnish the image of the force.
In this case, a disciplinary court was convened, which found Mulombo guilty of discreditable conduct, leading to his dismissal.
When one is dismissed from the force they cease being officers and turn into civilian.
