Buikwe Resident District Commissioner (RDC) Michael Kibwiika narrowly survived a head-on collision on the Jinja-Iganga Highway on Wednesday evening, January 8, 2025.

The accident occurred in Musita, just a few meters from the spot where former Budaka Deputy RDC Nusura Nabukalu lost her life in a tragic accident last month.

RDC Kibwiika, recounting the ordeal, expressed gratitude for his safety following the incident.

“I have just survived a head-on collision just immediately before where our Sister [Nabukalu] was involved in the accident that claimed her life,” he said.

Kibwiika added, “I bless the Lord for His Mighty hand of protection. I am safe, but the driver sustained some pain yet was able to control and manage the situation.”

Witnesses at the scene described the collision as a terrifying moment but commended the driver for maintaining composure and preventing further escalation.

This incident raises fresh concerns about road safety along the Jinja-Iganga Highway, which has seen several high-profile accidents in recent months.

Local authorities have called for urgent measures to address the increasing number of road crashes, including enhanced road signage, stricter enforcement of traffic regulations, and improved road infrastructure.

The RDC’s close call has left many reflecting on the dangers of the highway. “This road is a death trap. We need to act fast to prevent more lives from being lost,” said one resident of Musitafa.

Meanwhile, RDC Kibwiika called for prayers and vigilance on the roads, urging drivers to exercise caution. “Let us continue to pray for protection and drive responsibly. Every life matters,” he said.

The incident serves as a somber reminder of the fragility of life and the urgent need for collective efforts to ensure road safety in Uganda.
