Police at Namayingo CPS have in custody Yokram Etori, the LCI chairman of Nambano village, Bujwanga parish, Banda Subcounty, Namayingo district.

Etori who also is the senior pastor of the Gospel Power Center Church was arrested together with one of his residents identified as Anthony Onyango.

The duo were on Tuesday picked from the RDC’s office on the orders of the Deputy Resident District Commissioner (DRDC), Trevor Solomon Baleke.

Mr. Baleke ordered the police to “take them to the station and record their statements and keep them there until they appear in court” after Onyango admitted that he without the consent of his wife, Rose Anyango demolished their matrimonial house, the kitchen and latrine and even sold off their entire land leaving his her and their three children homeless.

Facing both the DRDC and DISO, Etori admitted that he was bribed with shs 200,000 by Onyango to “stamp on the transaction agreement” when Onyango’s wife had gone to the market where she is a vendor.

It has been established that Mr. Onyango recently got a second wife with whom he is currently staying in a rented room in a nearby trading trading

Accompanied by concerned residents led by the Banda Subcounty LCIII chairman, Kenneth Wandera, Anyango with her three children (all minors) camped at the RDC’s office crying for help.

Anyango narrated to the DRDC that; “my husband sold the only plot we had and went to spend the money with a new wife. He even demolished our house and destroyed all household items including beddings, clothes, utensil, a TV among other things.”

On his part, the LCIII chairman together the residents pinned the LCI chairman, Mr. Etori for having single handedly supported Onyango in the act.

“All neighbours refused signing on the agreement but that chairman decided to approve it because of Shs 200,00,” said Wandera.

During this meeting, Onyango and Etori were also present on the invitation of the DRDC and each party given ample time to explain.

Onyango in his defense told the DRDC that he had sold the plot because he realized it was small and wanted to use the money to buy a bigger piece of land somewhere for Anyango.

“It is criminal to demolish a house where other people live when they have not consented and it is also criminal to evict people especially children in such a manner yet it is another crime to maliciously damage household properties,”  the Deputy RDC said adding that for justice on both sides, the police should handle.

Accordingly the duo were handed over to police where they were still held by Wednesday morning.
