Uganda is pushing ahead with major infrastructure projects aimed at modernizing the country, President Museveni declared during his 2025 State of the Nation Address on Thursday.
Among the major milestones is the recently commissioned Mirama–Kabale High Voltage Power Line, which was launched in February this year. The line is set to significantly boost electricity transmission to western Uganda, helping to power industries and improve livelihoods in the region.
“This power line is part of our long-term plan to ensure universal access to electricity and industrialization,” Museveni said, hailing the project as a strategic asset.
The President also reaffirmed government’s commitment to the Uganda Standard Gauge Railway (SGR), a regional railway project that promises to enhance cargo transport and trade between Uganda and neighbouring countries.
“Our railways will reduce transport costs for goods, boost our competitiveness and create jobs,” Museveni said. Construction of the SGR is progressing with new partnerships being explored to fast-track the work.
Experts say such infrastructure projects will be game-changers for Uganda’s economy, particularly in unlocking opportunities in agriculture, minerals, and manufacturing.
The President called on citizens to support government efforts, noting that infrastructure is the “bedrock of economic transformation.”
