The political temperature in Kamuli District has taken a dramatic twist as Noet Nangobi, the youthful and bold Kamuli District Female Youth Councilor, officially picked nomination forms from the NRM Electoral Commission. Noet has picked forms confirming her intention to contest for the Kamuli District Woman Member of Parliament seat — a position currently occupied by the former Speaker of Parliament, Rt. Hon. Rebecca Kadaga.

Donning a confident smile, Nangobi posed for a symbolic photo moment with NRM EC Chairperson Dr. Tanga Odoi immediately after picking the forms.

In a brief video released shortly after, the energized councilor declared, “I have come to relieve our incumbent from the pressure of looking for votes.”

The development has shaken up the political scene in Kamuli, especially given Nangobi’s history as a former staunch Kadaga mobilizer, who played a key role in rallying youth support for the veteran politician during the hotly contested 2021 campaigns.

However, signs of political divergence first emerged last year during an event at St Mary’s Primary School in Nawanyago Town Council — Nangobi’s home area — where she was reportedly assaulted and chased away by Kadaga loyalists.

They accused her of plotting to challenge their ‘Maama,’ an allegation that now appears prophetic.

Critics who once doubted her seriousness are now eating their words as Nangobi proves she’s not only determined but qualified. Last year, she quietly returned to school and sat her Uganda Advanced Certificate of Education (UACE) exams at Buwenge Modern Senior Secondary School, sealing her academic eligibility for the parliamentary race.

Sources close to Nangobi’s camp say she is commanding massive grassroots support, especially among youth and women, with many citing her humble background, resilience, and accessibility as key reasons for their endorsement.

“Kamuli is ready. The young blood has risen. It is now up to the people to choose between ceremonial presence and practical connection,” remarked one of her campaign strategists.

While Kadaga’s camp has remained tight-lipped, analysts say the former Speaker faces one of her toughest challenges yet — not from the opposition, but from within her former support base.

As the NRM primary season kicks off, all eyes are now on Kamuli. Whether the seasoned political icon will withstand the challenge from her former protégé turned competitor remains to be seen.
