The incident occurred on 3rd July 2025 at around 6:40PM at Hakashanje Playground, located in Nyakahanga Cell, Bushura Parish, Hamuhambo Town Council. According to the Kigezi Regional Police Spokesperson, ASP Elly Maate, the minister had just concluded a political engagement at the venue and was leaving when unknown individuals began pelting stones at his convoy.
“Stones were hurled from the crowd, damaging the vehicle’s glasses. Fortunately, the minister was not injured, but the incident is being treated with the seriousness it deserves,” ASP Maate said in a press statement issued Friday morning.
He further revealed that the chaos had earlier signs when some individuals allegedly tore down campaign posters belonging to the minister’s team at the same venue during morning hours.
Police have since launched a full investigation into the incident, registering a case of malicious damage. At least nine suspects have been identified and are currently being pursued by security operatives in Rubanda.
“This is outright hooliganism, and we are committed to ensuring the perpetrators are arrested and prosecuted accordingly,” ASP Maate emphasized.
He also warned the public against acts of political violence and intimidation as Uganda prepares for the 2026 general elections.
“Everyone must be allowed to enjoy their civic rights without fear or interference. Those who choose lawlessness will face the full force of the law,” he added.

Efforts are underway to calm tensions in the area, with security agencies stepping up surveillance and community engagement to prevent further incidents.
