Luuka | Eye Media | July 18, 2025

Luuka has spoken, and it has spoken with one loud, clear voice. Annet Nabirye has emerged victorious in the NRM primaries, securing the party flag for Woman Member of Parliament in the 2026 general elections — and sending a powerful message of unity, humility, and forward-looking leadership.

Addressing jubilant supporters after her landslide win, Nabirye described the victory as not hers alone, but one shared by the entire Luuka community.

“This is a victory of our shared vision, a victory for the future we want to build together,” she said with emotion.

With 33,714 votes cast in her favour, Nabirye credited the win to the strength, trust, and belief of the people of Luuka.

“Thank you for placing your confidence in me. Thank you for standing up for our cause. Whether you lined up or supported quietly in your hearts — this win is yours,” she said.

Nabirye was full of gratitude for the backbone of her campaign: the coordinators at all levels, her tireless agents and foot soldiers, the Obwatabingwa, NRM leaders, security teams, religious and cultural leaders, teachers, students, youth, health workers, traditional healers, vendors, and civil servants. She emphasized that every single supporter played a role in this milestone.

She also extended a gracious hand to her fellow contestants, making it clear that the primaries were not a battlefield, but a constitutional process.

“Only one person was meant to carry the flag, and the people have made their choice. But this journey is far from over. I invite all of you — let’s walk together. Luuka is bigger than any one of us.”

Nabirye addressed the unfortunate incidents where some of her supporters were reportedly intimidated by individuals dressed in UPDF uniforms. While she expressed sympathy for those affected, she was careful to distinguish the actions of a few from the entire institution.

“The UPDF is a professional force. What happened were isolated mistakes, not the character of the army,” she noted.

As she looks to the future, Nabirye has already set her sights on the bigger prize — the January 2026 general elections. She called on all NRM supporters, including those who supported other candidates, to rally together for the sake of Luuka’s transformation.

To mark the milestone and give thanks to God, she has invited the people of Luuka to a grand Thanksgiving ceremony on August 2, 2025, at Kiyunga District Headquarters, beginning at 8:00 a.m.

“Let us come together and thank the Almighty for how far He has brought us,” she urged.

With this resounding win, Annet Nabirye hasn’t just secured a party flag — she has reignited a movement. And if her message is anything to go by, the journey to a united, transformed Luuka has only just begun.
