Luuka District came to a standstill on Saturday as thousands flocked to the district headquarters for a colourful mega thanksgiving event organised by Ms. Annet Nabirye, the newly elected NRM flag bearer for Luuka Woman MP seat.

Dubbed “Ekibinuko Twegaite” (Let’s Unite), the music-filled celebration doubled as a unifying call for reconciliation, peace, and togetherness ahead of the 2026 general elections. Nabirye, who recently stunned the political landscape by defeating incumbent Esther Mbayo in the NRM primaries with a landslide 38,186 votes to 8,111, said the victory belonged to the people of Luuka.
“Party primaries may have caused divisions, but now is the time to heal, reconcile and work together for the good of our party and our country,” she told the cheering crowd.

She urged NRM members to put the party’s four principles above personal interests, describing NRM as “bigger than all of us” and central to Uganda’s development. Nabirye also called on Luuka to rally behind President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni and all NRM flag bearers in 2026 to consolidate progress.
National Figures Add Their Voice
The event attracted prominent political leaders, including Ms. Justine Nameere, Senior Presidential Advisor for Greater Masaka Region and NRM flag bearer for Masaka City Woman MP. Nameere backed Nabirye’s message, telling the people of Luuka to vote wisely:

“NRM brought democracy. Use it to choose selfless leaders who have your wellbeing at heart. Nabirye and President Museveni have proven they are committed to development.”

The thanksgiving also featured prayers led by Rev. Canon Moses Dhikange from Central Busoga Diocese, who praised Nabirye for steering socio-economic transformation in Luuka since joining politics.

Entertainment Meets Politics
The celebration lived up to its billing as a mega event, with electrifying performances from music stars Ronald Mayinja, Catherine Kusasira, Gravity Omutujju, Phina Mugerwa, Jovan Luzinda, and several Busoga-based artistes.
The occasion drew a cross-section of leaders — from village chairpersons to district councillors, government officials, NRM parliamentary flag bearers, and the District NRM League leadership — all pledging support for Nabirye and President Museveni.

By the close of the day, the message from Luuka was clear: gratitude for the primary win, a renewed push for unity, and a firm commitment to the NRM’s cause as 2026 approaches.
