Kayunga, Uganda – In response to public complaints, Kayunga Deputy Resident District Commissioner (RDC), Trevor Solomon Baleke, has made an impromptu visit to the Wabirongo/Kigayaaza swamp—a vital road section connecting Nazigo Sub-county to Kangulumira Town Council.
The visit followed a petition by concerned residents and their local leaders, LCIII chairpersons Paul Semujju (Nazigo) and Robert Kiggundu (Kangulumira), who accused the district engineering department of carrying out substandard work. The culverts recently installed at the swamp were swept away by rains, leaving the road completely impassable.

Baleke was accompanied by District Engineer Rogers Meke and Project Manager Denis Buyinza Lubowa, who were tasked with explaining the situation to the frustrated locals and their leaders.
During the community engagement, residents and leaders emphasized the strategic importance of the road section, describing it as a lifeline for transport, trade, and access to essential services. They expressed appreciation to the Deputy RDC for taking their concerns seriously and responding promptly.

Engineer Meke and Project Manager Buyinza clarified that the project, worth Shs. 70 million, is not yet complete. They revealed that heavy machinery would be returned to the site by mid-September to finish the remaining works.
However, RDC Baleke, visibly dissatisfied with the delay, directed the engineering department to fast-track the repairs and ensure that the road is worked on within one week. The announcement was met with excitement and applause from residents, who are eager to see the road reopened.
“This situation cannot wait until mid-September. The people deserve better. I want to see action within a week,” Baleke said.
The visit marks a significant step toward addressing local infrastructure concerns, with residents calling for continued oversight and transparency in the implementation of public works.
The affected road section remains impassable for now, but users are hopeful that swift government action will restore it to a usable condition soon.
