Tororo District Deputy RDC, Albert Amula has vowed not to allow any contractor to sleep on the job since it is a form of failing implementation of NRM Manifesto.

During site visits at the ongoing construction of Iyolwa and Sop Sop Seed schools in Tororo, the concerned Deputy RDC warned the Contractors to work within the agreed time frame in the contract since delayed completion of such projects tantamounts to sabotaging government.

Flanked by District chairperson, John Okea, CAO, District Engineer, and other district technocrats, Amula said the visits were aimed at fulfilling the NRM Manifesto which is a service delivery blueprint for the Government.

The construction work is being undertaken by Custom Engineering Limited.

He reiterated the commitment of the government to establish seed schools in every sub-county.

“I want to remind you of the time frame regarding the Public Financial Management Act which requires accounting officers to return funds at the end of the financial year,” Amula said to the contractors.

The Deputy RDC warned civil servants to dessist from waiting for mere reports in their offices which gives Contractors opportunity to mismanage the government projects hence failing the district from achieving its target.

“If you don’t do your work within the planned period, some of these protected will be affected.

Money will be sent back since these are world bank funded projects under  Uganda Intergovernmental Fiscal Transfers Program (UGFIT),” he explained.

Amula also asked the contractor  M/S Custom Engineering LTD to cooperate with local leaders since he has reports there has been alleged itchy relationship.

“Please improve on your working relationship with the stakeholders to address the gaps that have been highlighted in the site meetings,” he said.

The District Chairperson, John Okea urged the contractor to ensure that works are completed within the set time frame and asked the contractor to improve on his working relationship with the lower local government where the projects are being implemented.
