MTN Uganda has donated shs 20M towards the preparation of Martyrs Day. During the handover of the money to the Bishop of Jinja Catholic Diocese Rt Rev Martin Charles Wamika, officials from MTN pledged to support pilgrims from Eastern Uganda with reflector jackets and water throughout their journey to Namugongo Martyrs shrine.
This has give a boost to Preparation for Uganda Martyrs Day have received a boost when telecom giants MTN Uganda donated shs 20M towards the event.
The Chairperson of the finance organising Committee also Minister for General duties in the office of Prime Minister Justine Kasule Lumumba asked other stakeholders to emulate MTN.
“We have a budget of shs 2.3Bn but sofar we have collected shs 600M therefore we need more money” Lumumba revealed to the Media shortly after the handover ceremony
Speaking at the event, Bishop Martin Wamika revealed that the eastern cluster including Jinja Diocese is the main celebrants for this year’s Martyrs Day in Namugongo and applauded MTN Uganda for this good gesture towards the event.
“I would like to sincerely thank MTN for this gesture towards the occasion, i know we have a big task ahead but since other managed during their turn, Jinja Diocese also manage” the man of God said
Allan Njagala MTN head of Commercial in eastern Uganda revealed that they will also support pilgrims with reflector jackets, water and also ensure all events are relayed live on different platforms
Present at the occasion was the Katukiro of Busoga Kingdom Joseph Muvawala, Chairperson of Catholic Parliamentarians also Woman MP of Bugiri Agnes Taaka, Kagoma North MP Brandon Kintu among others
