Three members of one family have drowned after a small boat capsized in the bight of Lake Kyoga that separates Namutumba and Kaliro districts.
The boat capsized Tuesday as they tried sail on the lake stretch.
The deceased have been identified as Zevirio Koowa, Lwaha Kozaala and Paul Binoze all from one family in Namwenda II village, Ivukula sub county in the Eastern district of Namutumba, police have said.
They were returning from the other side of the lake in Kaliro district where they went for the burial of a relative.
By press time, the family was organizing burial of the three bodies.
According to the Ministry of Works and Transport an average of 3,000 people drown in Ugandan water bodies every year but not all incidents are reported.
