The territorial police in Kabale have arrested and detained a student of Kabale University who has been masquerading as a UPDF Lieutenant to terrorise Kabale and its neighborhood.
The 26-year-old has been identified by the police as Gaston Kakuru Tumusiime.
Eye Media has established that Tumusiime is a 3rd year student of pursuing a bachelors of education.
He is a resident of Nyakambu cell, southern division in municipality.
On top of impersonating to be a Lt of UPDF, Tumusiime has at times been calling himself a police personnel, the police say.
His arrest comes as a result of multiple criminal cases of robbery and theft filed against him by both wananchi and his fellow students.
This student of literature is alleged to have robbed Joseph Nuwagaba of Nkombe cell in Kitumba sub county of his Shs 1.5m and a smartphone on on December 1, 202 at 9:00pm at a place called Mwisi.
Tumusiime also has a file on which, Patrick Aharizira of Butobere cell in Kabale central division accuse him of robbing his motor vehicle Reg No UAT856J. It is said that Tumusiime robbed this premio on April 15, 2023 at around 04:30am at Nyakitoro cell located in the southern division where its owner had parked.
The suspect has also been wanted on a file of robbery where he is alleged to have robbed a mobile phone, a radio, a watch and Shs 50,000 from Naboth Twongyeirwe a health worker in Rubanda district.
Tumusiime’s fourth file is where he is accused of theft. It is alleged that he stole 4 laptops from fellow students deceitfully and sold them off. The four students who filed their statements at police against him are; Caroline Dushimana whose laptop he stole in March 2023, Goret Taremwa in November 2021, Lillian Nsimenta in December 2022 and Precious Ekyamagero in September last year.
He has another file where he was reported after stealing a phone from Edith Orikyiriza on on April 15, 2023.
On another file, Tumusiime is alleged to have stolen three phones, a phone charger and Shs 23,000 from Mutiny Muhindo, another student of Kabale University.
While arresting him, the police also recovered from his room a similar to a UPDF uniform.
Contacted for a comment on this report, the Regional Police spokesperson, Elly Maate told Eye Media that; “there are even a lot more cases against that man here at police.”
“And anyone who could have been robbed should report at CPS Kabale for further management.”
