The Police Flying Squad have this morning at around 7:00 o’clock apprehended, Police Constable Ivan Wabwire who shot dead an Indian businessman in Kampala, Uttam Bhandari who was the director of TFS Financial Services.
Senior Superintendent of Police, Patrick Onyango, Kampala Metropolitan Police Spokesperson has confirmed this report.
Onyango says, Wabwire was arrested from the boarder district of Busia.
It is not yet clear whether he was trying to escape but there is information indicating that Wabwire is actually a bone of Busia.
The team that has captured Wabwire was led by Busia District Police Commander, Didas Byaruhanga who picked him from the Cusotoms in Busia municipality.
“A joint team of security traced the suspect to Busia district where they managed to arrest him from the Customs,” says Onyango.
Aged 30, Wabwire a police officer attached to CPS Kampala is currently detained at CPS Busia pending transfer to Kampala.
“We want to thank the officers who worked for the last 42 hours to ensure that Wabwire is arrested,” adds Onyango.
Wabwire on Friday entered the TFS Financial Services office in room B004 Raja Chambers, Kampala and shot the company director, Uttam Bhandari with three bullets.
He would later jump on a motorcycle and went back to CPS where he abandoned the liller gun and took off.
His arrest comes hours after president and Commander-in-Chief of armed forces, Gen Yoweri Museveni asked the police leadership 6 hard questions, wondering how the officer could do all he did without being noticed and arrested quickly.
The president also demanded to know why and how Wabwire who has not been armed for some time accessed a gun.
His arrest falls on the day the Indian community leaving in Uganda is set to carry out cremation of Uttam Bhandari’s remains.
