It is now almost 3 years of the National Resistance Movement 5 years political term since the elections victory in 2021. The Parish Development Model is a priority vehicle under the National Development Plan III through which the NRM under the leadership of President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni focuses to alleviate 68% of Ugandans who are suffering from poverty according to the UBOS.
The last year 2022, the PDM funds were released to all districts and later disbursed to all the beneficiary groups at the Parish level across the country. However, there has been concern about the rich benefiting from the PDM and sidelining the poor which caused a loud debate in the public amidst allegations of corruption especially among the district technical officials.
President Museveni clarified that “To the rich, the PDM and Emyooga money is for the low-income earners. For you can go to Uganda Development Bank”. He added that “The debts should be paid back after three years and the recovered money kept at the village bank.”
The meeting targeted the leaders from Greater Masaka and the President will be ending his tour in the Greater Masaka sub-region with a public rally where he is expected to address the citizens about the Parish Development Model and other matters of national importance.
The President said he was aware of the concern of Muslims for not taking money with interest as it is against their faith teachings and advised them to analyze the concept of self-empowerment money.
He promised to have the road that connects Uganda to Tanzania prioritized for purposes of inter-states business and petroleum movements.
