“We didn’t vote for Museveni because his police brutalizes us, Luuka NRM members tell Secretariat officials,” is what the people of Luuka said when asked why this time they didn’t vote for president Museveni.
During the 2021 general elections, NRM presidential candidate, President Yoweri Museveni performed poorly in Busoga compared to all his previous scores.
The party has since been looking for reasons for the drop in love for the ruling party among Abasoga who previously had the party at heart.
Recently the party Secretariat rolled out a program in which its officials are holding stakeholders’ meetings in strategic districts.
Today in Luuka, Hon Charles Egwau, the Executive Assistant to NRM Secretary General was in Luuka where he met party leaders from village to the district level.
The leaders told off the team that they never voted for President Museveni because the police in Luuka tortures them.
They among other departments overpinned the traffic, accusing them of torture and extortion.
Umar Ntogona who filed this report quotes the district speaker, Ronald Bikumbi to have told the Egwau led team that should nothing be done about the traffic officers in Luuka, the NRM should expect the worst in 2026.
After attentively listening to the concerns of the people, Hon Egwau pledged to deliver the message to the relevant authorities.
He appealed to the party members to not to lose track.
