Luuka district council on Tuesday May 30, 2023 afternoon passed a resolution seeking the creation Luuka Central Constituency.
The motion to create the new constituency was tabled before council by Irongo Sub County representative, Shaban Batwala Bamutalireki and seconded by Hajji Badru Ngobi.
According to Batwala, the proposed Luuka Central Constituency will comprise Luuka Town Council, Bulongo and Irongo Sub Counties.
Presently, Luuka district has two constituencies; Luuka North and Luuka south.
Luuka noth comprises Ikumbya, Bulongo and Bukooma sub counties and Bukoova and Luuka town councils. The area is represented in the 11th parliament by Hon Luke Kyobe.
Another Constituency is Luuka south which comprises Nawampiti, Irongo, Waibuga, Bukanga sub counties and three town councils of Bulanga, Kyanvuma and Busalamu, represented in the current parliament by Hon. Kisa Stephen Bakubalwayo.
The proposed news Constituency shall therefore leave Luuka north with 3 sub counties and Luuka South with six.
The entire council unanimously welcomed the decision and some councilors interviewed by write of this story, Umar Ntogona that the decision is meant to take services closer to their electorate.
Councilors say the current constitiencies are too huge.
Batwala says they will forward the resolution to the relevant authorities in Kampala for onward transmission to parliament for approval.
He said the resolutions are in response to the demand of their voters.
Council also approved their Financial Year 2023/2024 budget of shs 30b.
