Residents and members of a Village Savings and Loans Association (VSLA) in Bulubandi Nandekula village, Nakigo sub county, Iganga district are in tears following the gruesome murder of their treasurer by unknown assailants.
The body of 63-year-old Lukia Nabirye was found lying in a pool of blood by her neighbors, Thursday morning.
Nabirye who lived alone in her house was last seen Wednesday night and neighbours confirm, she locked herself inside the house at 9:00pm to sleep.
Confirming this report, Diana Nandawula the Busoga East Regional Police Spokesperson said eyewitnesses found the deceased’s house open with her lifeless body dumped in the sitting room.
“And the box where she kept her VSLA savings was found broken and left empty,” Nandawula said.
It is not yet clear how much exactly was in the VSLA box.
The body has been taken to Nakavule hospital for postmortem as the police mount a hunt for the killers.
Nandawula has appealed to whoever could be having helpful information about the incident to provide it to the police at Iganga CPS.
