A team of investigators handling the case of murder of city lawyer, Ronald Mukisa has arrested his wife, Dorah Birungi.
Birungi who also was a fellow lawyer at the deceased’s law firm is detained at Kajjansi police station as investigators study her statement before formally charging her, according to Kampala Metropolitan Deputy Police spokesperson Luke Owoyesigyire.
Birungi and Mukisa had introduced each other to their respective families a few years ago and have a child together.
However, they later separated, and Birungi has been living with their child in Kajjansi.
Surprisingly, Birungi, despite residing in Kajjansi, was one of the first people to arrive at the crime scene.
Detectives are keen to determine who informed her about the death of Mukisa, considering her suspicious circumstances.
Sources revealed that prior to Mukisa’s murder, he had been receiving threatening messages from Birungi, warning him to stop harassing her new boyfriend, who also worked at their law firm.
The reason behind the separation between Mukisa and Birungi was Mukisa’s romantic involvement with the same lawyer.
According to a source, the lawyer in question is paying Birungi’s rent and is frequently seen at her place.
Detectives believe that Birungi and the lawyer are the primary beneficiaries of Mukisa’s murder.
One of the lawyers from their law firm, who was a friend of the deceased, provided a statement outlining his suspicions, prompting further investigation.
The investigators are also exploring the possibility that Mukisa’s murder was politically motivated, as he was allegedly planning to run for the Makindye Ssabagabo parliamentary seat.
Witnesses claimed that Mukisa had discussed his political ambitions with them recently.
Bernard Oundo, the president of the Uganda Law Society, urged the investigators to diligently pursue the case to ensure that the culprits are brought to justice, as Mukisa’s murder has instilled fear among many lawyers.
The investigation into Mukisa’s murder has been expanded by the Criminal Intelligence division led by Brig. Gen. Christopher Ddamulira Sserunjongi and the police Criminal Investigation Department headed by Dr. Maj. Tom Magamba.
Mukisa, nicknamed Ronnie by his friends, was shot and killed by an unknown assassin in the early hours of Tuesday in Kitiko village, Ndejje Division, Makindye Ssabagabo, Wakiso district.
He was attacked while closing his gate after parking his dark blue Subaru Legacy with registration number UBJ 006K.
