The Inspectorate of Government is investigating the Bugiri District Service Commission following the alleged illegal appointment of a non-medical practioner to serve as Senior Health Educator.
In the May 25, 2023 petitioner, a concerned citizens further informed the Inspector General of Government that the non-medical Senior Health Educator is also referred to as the District Health Officer (DHO) owing to the powers he wields within the district.
It is established the person holding the said portfolios is Mr. Abraham Akorikin who only has a diploma in records management.
For one to qualify for the position of Senior Health Educator, he or she must be a bachelor’s holder in health/medical education field and technically qualified person with not less than three years of practice in the active health service.
For Mr. Akorikin, according to the whistle-blower, is a records assistant by profession with no qualifications to serve as a senior health educator.
According to the petitioner, the post of senior health educator is available in the district hospital which notebly has qualified people who have been ignored with impunity.
This is a developing story as we shall have to get comments from the District Service Commission and other authorites about the matter.
