At exactly 11:55am, Monday June 5, 2023 the NRM Flag bearer for the vacant Bukedea LCV seat, Mary AKOL was declared a duly nominated candidate for the by-elections by the District Returning Officer, Haj Sulaiman Kato.
Immediately after the nominatoon, Rogers Mulindwa from the NRM Communications directorate released a statement.
Mulindwa said AKOL was accompanied to the nomination centre by Kachumbala County MP Hon Patrick Isiagi, the district NRM Chairperson Ongole Michael James plus two Senior Managers from the NRM National Secretariat- Rogers Mulindwa (Information & Public Relations) and Sam Eyenga (Mobilisation) among others. The DRO said he had critically perused through all the documents of AKOL and was satisfied. Akol was proposed by Emong Johnson Otinga and seconded by Kaborot Margret.
Speaking to the media shortly after her nomination, Akol called for unity among the people of Bukedea and pledged her commitment to work with everyone regardless of his/her political affiliation, tribe or religion. “Am a unifier and my office will always be open to everyone”, she said.
She further pledged to ensure proper coordination of government programs including PDM and Emiyooga among others, to the benefit of the Bukedea people. About PDM, AKOL said over UgX 8bn had already been sent to the district SACCOs.
The Electoral Commission will meet all nominated Candidates on Wednesday to harmonize their campaign programs.
