The family of fallen comedian turned politian, Kato Lubwama is stuck. Although they wouldn’t love to suffer the embarrassment of their popular son being buried without religious prayers, information reaching us indicate that Lubwana never attended church and owned tranditional shrines and it is doubted he was a Christian.
Consequently, the Catholic church in which he was baptized at infancy has stopped a requiem mass that had been planned in his memory at Lubaga cathedral.
There are also unconfirmed reports indicating that Kato Lubwama, a former Lubaga South, MP will not have official catholic representatives to hold any form of prayers at his home.
Quoting the Kampala archdiocese Chancellor, Rev. Dr. Pius Male Ssentumbwe, Bukedde newspaper reported a requiem mass is only meant for those who during life were active members of the church.
He said that if family members were active church goers, they can be allowed to pray for the dead in church but the body may be rejected at the church aisle or podium.
Mutundwe church parishioner
Vincent Kawunde had no memory of seeing Kato Lubwama in church and that he through official channels relayed this information to the archibishop and consequently the decision to ban the body of Lubwama from church.
Fr. Denis Warren Kibalama, a former priest at Mutundwe said he remembers seeing Kato Lubwama only once at the church when he was looking for votes.
However, Abbey Mukiibi, sounded to dismiss the church’s position explaining it’s only the venue that was changed.
”We have only had a small program change. Instead of going to Lubaga, we will have the requiem mass at St. Matia Mulumba at old Kampala,” Mukiibi said.
