Known for loving and caring for children, Rt Hon Justine Kasule Lumumba – the Minister of General Duties has tasked leaders in Lira City, Lira district and Gulu city to swiftly do something about the everyday growing number of street children in the two cities.
Addressing the Northern Regional SDG Stakeholders’ Forum meeting held at Pauline Hotels, Lumumba said on Thursday, 8th June 2023, that the leaders should urgently sit and find a lasting solution to the surging number of street children.

She based on information from the mayor of Lira City Sam Atul who said that his city alone has over 1000 street children.
Lumumba urged parents to balance between parenting and looking for money.
She promised to engage the ministry of Gender on the issue.
Lumumba called on both cultural and religious institutions to play a role too.
The stakeholders meeting brought all NGOs, cultural leaders, LCV chairpersons, CAO, District Planners and the media among others from all districts of Lango and some from West Nile, Acholi, and Karamoja.

Lumumba asked the more than 400 leaders at the meeting to desist from corruption tendencies.
She said corruption should be eliminated from all levels of leadership both in local and central governments for Uganda to achieve all the SDG goals.
“Corruption demoralises the hard working people. It causes distortions in society, which can be a recipe for insecurity,” she said.
