18-year-old S.4 candidate, Samuel Adriko of Maracha High School was killed in a hit-and-run accident.
Adriko met his death on Saturday as he walked along the Arua-Koboko-Oraba Highway near Nyoro primary school in Nyadri sub county when he was knocked down by a speeding vehicle.
Peter Candia, an eyewitness, said that the vehicle was coming from Arua City heading towards Koboko town when it lost control while negotiating a corner and hit Adriko from behind. Adriko died on the spot.
Julius Muhoozi, the officer in charge of traffic at Maracha Central police station, said that the driver of the vehicle fled the scene and is still being sought by police.
“We are appealing to anyone with information about the driver or the vehicle to come forward,” Muhoozi said.
Richard Adroma, the director of studies at Maracha High School, said that Adriko was a bright and promising student.
“He was one of our top students and we are very saddened by his death,” Adroma said.
Adriko’s body was taken to St. Joseph’s Hospital Maracha for post-mortem.
