Government through the Ministry of Tourism Wildlife and antiquities have embarked on a comprehensive plan to develop source of the Nile to a world class tourism site.
This was revealed by the the Assistant Commissioner in the Ministry of tourism Vivian Lyazi during a stakeholders meeting in Jinja
He sayd this intended tap into Jinja’s tourism potential.
During a stakeholders meeting in Jinja the Assistant Commissioner in the Ministry of Tourism, wildlife and antiquities Vivian Lyazi revealed that the development is starting in the next year with a construction of a modern Pier where boats dock.
“We want to put a number of developments at source of the Nile including a modern pier, meseum, elevated view of the River among others said Vivian Lyazi Assistant Commissioner Ministry of Tourism
He says a local company Strategic friends International has been sourced to come up with a comprehensive plan of redesigning the source of the Nile.
Dr Kosea Wambaka the Group CEO of Strategic Friends international says they already developed a plan and they’re waiting for resources to start compensating the project affected people”
However, they are starting with a Modern Pier since the land where it shall be located belongs to government.
The decision by government has excited local leaders from Jinja and neighbouring Njeru Municipality which shall benefit from this project.
The project shall increase our local revenue and we implore the investors who own land at the source of the Nile to cooperate with government to compensate their land said Yasin Kyazze Mayor Njeru Municipality
Henry Kitambula the deputy Resident City Commissioner southern Division in Jinja City warned some investors who hike prices of their land after hearing that government is harbouring intentions to buy it.
Some people bury some objects to hoodwink chief government valuer that they have graves , this shouldn’t be done
He added that others decide to sell the plot to their family members at hiked prices to just higher valuations which delays the projects. Kitambula noted
Maria Kasasa the Deputy Mayor of Southern Division could not hide her excitement for this project which she says shall change the face of Jinja City.
Souce of The Nile is one of the leading tourist destinations in Uganda fetching close to Ushs100M for Jinja’s local revenue monthly.
