A second Member of Parliament has been sent to jail where he shall spend six months for failure to meet his loan obligations.
Hon Dr. Patrick Mutono the Butebo County MP was on Friday June 23, 2023 sent to Maluku prisons by the High Court in Mbale.
Mutono, according to the plaint, deliberately refused to pay back a loan of Shs. 300 million he acquired from money lenders during the 2021 campaigns.
On top of the 6 months in jail, court ordered the MP to also pay back the money he borrowed.
On Friday June 16, 2023 Bunyangabu County Member of Parliament, Davis Kamukama was also sent to prison over similar charges.
Sent to spend 6 months in Luzira prison or until he pays the money, Kamukama was accused of failing to pay a loan that he acquired in 2021 to pay his election against which he left to accumulate to a tune of Shs 69m.
Kamukama was sent to the prison by the Chief Magistrate court at Mengo presided over, by HW Sharon Nuwaga under civil suit No. 0452 of 2022.
In the warrant of committal to Luzira, the Chief Magistrate directed the OC Luzira prison to keep Hon Kamukama imprisoned for a period not exceeding six months or until he pays the money.
