Gulu Chief Magistrate, Said Baryeje on Tuesday afternoon reminded Kwania Deputy Resident District Commissioner, Jacob Jonga to Gulu main prison until July 4, 2023.
This was at 3:20pm confirmed by the Office of the President.
The Deputy Dean of RDCs in Uganda, Sabastian Oguti Oswin told the media outside Gulu Chief Magistrates Court that Jonga was remanded for failure to control his temper and to behave as a high ranking government official.
“His emotional resilience and intelligence is wanting,” said Oguti.
Oguti rubbished media claims that Jonga was arrested because of fighting for money.
“No one fought for money. Jonga beat up a senior colleague for simply advising the LCV chairman of Kwania to talk to talk him (Jonga) about his misbehavior,” he said.
Jonga was arrested Sunday evening from Gulu University after beating to near death a female colleague, Jillian Akulu the RDC of Alebtong.
Not new in service
On January 12, 2021 under the stewardship of Hon Esther Mbayo – then minister for the Presidency, a list of new RDCs was released, among whom Jacob Jonga appeared under numbers 61 as Deputy RDC posted to Moroto district.
The Eye Media since established that Mr. Jonga has a record of assaulting others.
“When I was the Deputy RDC for Namayingo district, I was on four occasions called to go abd save the situation when he was fighting. He is my very good friend but his temper is so hot,” Pallisa Resident District Commissioner, Majid Dhikusooka told the Eye Media on Monday.
Dhikusooka is a long time friend of Jonga.
Jonga was on Sunday evening arrested for assaulting the RDC of Alebtong, Jillian Akullu.
The hot tempered looking Jonga fought Akullu for advising him to be humble.
An eyewitness told the Eye Media that after a workshop at Gulu University, Jonga wanted to jump the queue such that he is served before the rest of his colleagues and other officials who had already lined up for the workshop materials.
“He then shouted at the RDC of Dokolo who had told him to follow the queue. Everyone was embarrassed and concerned.
Later, Ms. Jillian (Akullu) went and whispered to the LCV chairman of Kwania to talk to the Deputy RDC because he had depicted a bad image,” recalls the eyewitness.
It has been established that When Jonga knew that Jillian had talked to the LCV chairman, was when he got even more furious, looked for her and thumped the lady to near death.
Jonga’s arrest was confirmed by the Office of the President.
“We can’t allow such people to taint the good image of the President’s Office. He will have to face the law,” an official from the Office of the President.
