Police in Kanungu district are looking for an 18-year-old man who assaulted his biological father to death.
The suspect, only identified as Ndeeya, a resident of Biizi village, Southern Ward, Rutenga Town Council, Kanungu district, struck his father three times on the head, resulting in multiple injuries.
According to Ezra Mugenyi, a resident, on June 13, 2023, at approximately 9:00 p.m, a domestic dispute erupted between Begumanya Phenahansi, 57, and his wife, Twongeirwe Charity, 52.
In the course of the altercation, their 18-year-old biological son, Ndeeya, grabbed a heavy stick and struck his father three times on the head, resulting in multiple injuries.
Mugenyi confirmed that initially, the victim was treated at home by his family members, who did not report the incident to the police.
However, on June 26, 2023, at around 10:00 a.m, the victim’s condition worsened, prompting his family to take him to Kisiizi Hospital in Rukungiri District. Unfortunately, he succumbed to his injuries on June 28, 2023, at approximately 2:00 p.m.
The body was subsequently transported from the hospital back to the ancestral home for a proper burial.
Elly Maate, the Kigezi Region police spokesperson, has confirmed the incident, adding that a team of detectives from the Rutenga police post visited the crime scene.
Maate stated that the body has been examined while the suspect remains at large. ‘’The manhunt for the suspect has commenced,’’ he said.
