The vice chairman of the Beach Management Unity (BMU) at Nabitalo landing site was on Saturday morning July 1, 2023 shot dead during an operation.
The deceased has been identified as Jackson Lutaya, a resident of Nabitalo B, Kibuye Parish, Kagumba Subcounty in Kamuli district.
Assistant Superintendent of Police, Michael Kasadha, the Busoga North Regional Police Spokesperson told the Eye Media that the deceased was shot at around 6:00am by a private security guard.
“He was in a boat together with other five members on an operation against illegal fishing before he was allegedly shot by a farm guard in the area,” said Kasadha.
Kasadha further explained that: It’s a alleged that when the suspected illegal fishermen sighted the boat on which the team were sailing, they made an alarm suggesting that they had been attacked by robbers. This was when the local farm guards responded and opened gun fire leading to the death of Lutaya on spot.”
Detectives from Central Police Station of Kamuli responded to the scene and further inquiries are ongoing, according to the Regional Police Spokesperson.
