President Museveni has joined the Opposition political parties to condemn the violence and misconduct which marred the recently concluded Bukedea LCV Chairman by-election.
In a letter dated 26th June 2023, the Commander in Chief of armed forces has directed the head of State House Anti Corruption Unit Brig. Gen. Henry Isoke to investigate and bring to book all the government officials who were behind the mismanagement of the whole electoral process.
If investigations find that indeed some government officials involved themseveles in the alleged violence and electoral malpractices that marred the recent Bukedea LCV byelection, those implicated shall be arraigned before courts of law on criminal charges.
The President said he was irritated by the information that on the nomination eve, government officials invaded the house of one of the candidates David Steven Omagor, confiscated his academic credentials and also stole Shs263m from him.
“I have got some disturbing information where our NRM candidate won with 91 per cent. I am now getting information that government officials on the night of the nomination invaded the house of Omagor, confiscated his academic papers and stole Shs263m from him so that he could not be nominated the following morning,” he explained.
Further more, the President instructed the State House Anti-Corruption Unit to thoroughly investigate allegations of ballot stuffing by the same government officials.
“This sounds like a film. However, I want to be sure that Uganda does not go back to the crime of 1980 with the Muwanga elections that forced us to go to the bush,” Museveni penned.
Museveni ordered the Isoke-led Unit to take action and report back to him if it finds any government officials culpable.
“…if any criminality was committed, take action and report back,” penned Museveni.
It should be remarked that on election day Opposition Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) candidate withdrew from the race citing election malpractices including massive rigging, ballot stuffing and violence.
