Police in Kamuli is investigating the sudden death of an 18-year-old man identified as Mwesigwa Hakim, a resident of Kireka in Nakawa Division in Kampala.
Mwesigwa was on Monday July 3, 2023 arrested and handed to police in Kasambira, Kamuli by residents of Kasambira town council on allegations of burglary and theft he allegedly committed in November last year.
Busoga North Regional Police Spokesperson, Michael Kasadga told us that on Wednesday July 5, 2023 morning, Mwesigwa was released on police bond, complaining of ulcers.
“One of his relatives identified as Nabirye Recheal stood surety for him, before proceeding with him to Hope Medical Clinic in Kasambira Town council, where he died moments later,” said Kasadha.
Some members of the public attempted to hold a demonstration at police claiming that the suspect died in custody but police from Kamuli Central Police Station dispersed them.
Relative of the deceased including Rachael Nabirye who was attending to him at his time death blamed the sudden death of Mwesigwa to the police.
The relatives say Mwesigwa informed the police about his ulcers complication and requested to receive treatment to which the officers at Kasambira police post paid a deaf ear.
Mwesigwa’s body was by press time lying in Kamuli Hospital mortuary where the police conveyed it for a postmortem.
“We call upon the members of the public to remain calm as we go on with further inquiries,” said Kasadha.
