Among the five police officers arrested and arraigned before court in Bukedea by the State House Anti-Corruption Unit is Detective Assistant Superintendent of Police, Alex Eguloiti, the officer in charge Crime Intelligence Bukedea district.
But a junior officer who said could speak to Eye Media on condition of anonymity described his remanded boss as high handed who acted like he was above the law.
On the eve of nominations for Bukedea district LCV chairman byelection, Eguloiti commanded a group of 4 other officers who raided the home of David Steven Omagor one of the candidates.
The group confiscated his nomination papers and made away with cash amounting to Shs 162 million.
It is alleged that the group which was armed with SMG guns, under the command of Ehguloiti also stole from Omagor an Audemars Piguet royal oak wristwatch valued at Shs. 84 million.
The security officers also assaulted Beatrice Anyait and even stole her Techno Camon 19 Pro phone and Shs. 15 million cash (from her).
On the nomination day, Omagor managed to quickly pick fresh forms filled them though still the officers foiled his attempt to get nominated.
Omagor an independent candidate was attacked by a group of over 50 goons who roughed him, destroyed whatever he had, including the nomination forms and beat him, tearing his clothes and left him almost naked.
But before all this, the spirit of hard luck started following Ehguloiti during the 2021 general elections and those who watched him knew he would one day run out of luck.
Allegation of torture were reported against him but because everyone believed he was untouchable (because of his good relationship with a strong politician from the region), all the allegations were not attended to.
In Jan this year, a suspect in custody identified as Michael Ojakol died and another suspect Joseph Okwalinga died moments after being admitted to Mbale regional referral hospital.
Bodies of the duo who had been arrested in connection to the murder of Francis Opolot were found with marks of torture, damaged kidneys, a broken neck and a broken spine. These findings confirmed suspicion of torture in the hands of police.
Fingers pointed at the ‘untouchable’ flamboyant Detective ASP Ehguloiti the Officer in charge Crime Intelligence.
Upon his arrest by the no nonsense State House Anti corruption unit acting on orders of Commander in Chief of Armed forces this arrested all those files have been amalgamated and the presumably untouchable officer is facing robbery, murder, aggrevated torture and torture among other charges.
