At least six traders within Luuka’s town of Kiyunga are counting losses after five kiosks and a food store were destroyed by fire on Saturday night.
Despite efforts to contain its’ spread by well-wishers, the traders were unable to rescue their merchandise worth millions.
A food store belonging to Paul Kadomolo, a prominent businessman was reduced to ashes because he was far and it was locked, denying rescuers access.
Maize flour, cereals, fridges and general merchandise were all detroyed in his store.
Eyewitnesses suspected the fire to have been sparked off by short circuit in one of the shops.
The local traders appealed to government to give the police in Luuka a fire brigade.
Police visited the scene and Investigations have been launched.
