The State House Anti-Corruption Unit Monday July 10, 2023 evening arrested Bukedea Resident District Commisioner (RDC), Wilberforce Tukei and the District Police Commander (DPC), Charles Okoto for their involvement in the mismanagement of the recent Bukedea district LCV by-election.
Eye Media impeccable sources told us that the duo are facing charges of abuse of office and use of excessive power.
A Resident District Commissioner is not only chief monitor of government programs in a district but also heads security.
On the eve of nomination for Bukedea district LCV by-election, five armed police officers raided the home of David Steven Omagor, one of the candidates, tortured him, stole his nomination papers and made away with cash amounting to Shs 168 millions.
The goons also robbed several other items worth millions of shillings belonging to Omagor and another relative.
On the nomination day, a group of about 50 people attacked Omagor and assaulted him, leaving him half naked. They made off with the nomination papers he had picked and filled earlier that day.
In a June 26, 2023 letter, President Yoweri Museveni directed the Brig Gen Henry Isoke led State House Anti-Corruption Unit to handle the alleged malpractices and apprehend any government officials culpable.
At the time of filing this report at around 5:30pm, the two security chiefs were in the hands of security at CPS Bukedea.
